Snow, shoes and ending up in A&E

So evaluation forms are done – hooray.
“Are you excited about reading them Teduardo?” Rob asks with an evil smirk
Ted blusters for a moment. “I am far too busy and important to look at them for at least a few days.” He retorts
Yes he actually used these words. Jamie and I both burst out laughing and go to the kitchen to make tea.

“So how was your Christmas?” He asks casually.
I shrug, “Why are you asking that.” I say “The answer will only bore you.”
Was just wondering if you recovered from the Christmas party.” He says.
I blush “Who… let me guess Fishy?” He nods
“Do you know Ethan told him off yesterday for picking on you?”
“Seriously?” I ask. I am quite touched. Ethan is such a big brother to me.
“So anyway,” Jamie says, “If I’d have been there….”
I roll my eyes, “I think I’ve learnt my lesson about playing in the company sandbox.”
He gives me a look and says, “Maybe you just need to find the right one to play in.”
“I think Teds calling me” I lie blushing.

I decide that I can’t work for another second without Starbucks as the kitchen feels scary and confusing so I decide to make a run. I end up with about six orders so Simon and Rob offer to give me a hand which Fishy finds very amusing and can’t resist making a comment about.
Before I can kill him Ted says, “Rob you are needed to train Fishy remember?”
So Simon and I end up wandering to get coffee.

It is very snowy in London and even I have had to wear ugly shoes so I could try not to fall over again. Unfortunately two minutes away from the office I slip over and whack my head on the pavements.

First thought on regaining consciousness is “Bugger” swiftly followed by “Ouch”
Simon rushes up and asks if I am okay at which point I burst into tears.
I am really not a crier – despite the evidence of the last few months I rarely cry. However, I seem to have hit a tear duct. As I sit up Simon checks the back of my head which is now bleeding somewhat. I stagger up.
“Are you okay?” Simon asks.
“I’m fine,” I half slur half sob.
“Kate I think we need to get you checked out.” Simon says.
I shake my head and then throw up on the pavement. I think I also got Simon’s shoes. He holds my hair back and says, “We are getting a taxi to the A&E right now whether you like it or not.”

So Simon bundles me into a taxi and we end up sitting there for three hours before the doctors decide I have managed to give myself severe concussion and shouldn’t be left alone for 48 hours. Unfortunately I live alone so end up going back to Simons…

So do I win loser of the year for managing to fall over twice in January? I should not be allowed out without a crash helmet clearly...

  3. Oh no!!! Glad you are not too hurt.

I think I’ve learnt my lesson about playing in the company sandbox.

I think many people have learned this lesson. LOL. ALthough, I know one or two that need a quick refresher.

  4. Holy crap--hope you're doing alright now! Poor Kate. Falling over just isn't fun anymore as soon as you do serious damage :(.

  5. OUCH! You do realize that a cat probably tripped you. That's why you fell.

    ;-)

  6. That's awful. You poor girl. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Urban School Teacher - I tend to lose count in March....

  13. Get well soon too, KT.

Hope the days off don't come off your holidays as my snow day did.

  14. "Ugly shoes"…loves it! - I'd rather crawl to work than wear ugly shoes…hehehe. Thanks for dropping by my place the other day, I appreciates it. x.

  15. Ok, first, I hope you're ok. It's a terrible shock to fall, especially in ugly shoes, but second (and no one else mentioned it, so sorry if I'm being indelicate) you went home with Simon and there were dots at the end of the sentence...
    Next post please!!!

  19. Omg that totally sucks! What the heck is going on with you girl? You're not even drinking when this stuff happens!! The same can be said about me too though.... Clumsy....

  20. Perhaps you should start an ugly shoes and helmet fund?

    Feel better.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh my! I hope you are feeling much better. Nothing worse than a brain trauma. You need some of those things people put on the bottom of their shoes for traction. It's all the rage with the over 65 set here.
You should have your balance checked next time you see a Dr. I'm beginning to worry you have an inner ear problem with all your falling over.
    Feel better soon.

  22. So glad you're doing better after that nasty fall.

  23. Kate - Don't be too embarassed...clumsiness happens to be a sexy trait in women...unless I'm the only one who thinks that ! Oo-err..!

    Get well soon, chicken...

  24. Ouch! That hurt! I never thought about trying to get a woman to stay with me like that! haha! Trip her, tell her she fell and take her back to my place! :)

  25. Ouch! I hope you feel better soon Kate.

Simon is lovely for looking after you. Just be glad that Fishy didn't accompany you to Starbucks otherwise you'd have been forced to spend three hours in his company instead! The again, you would have thrown up on him rather than Simon I suppose, which would have been a small win for you I think. :-)

  29. No Loser of the Year Award yet. You have to fall three times for that. I hope you don't win.

  30. Holy crap! You should walk around in a plastic bubble, so you don't hurt yourself. Haha. Poor poor Kate.

Miss you bunches too. I have to get back to blogging mode. Been bad during the holidays.

    Happy New Year!

  33. A concussion can be serious - look at Natasha Richardson. I'm glad to see that you're still blogging, a sure sign that your head's still in tact and fully functional. Aaaaaand maybe Simon's not such a prick after all. :)

  34. Oh my goodness Kate! You poor thing! I hope you are better and that Simon didn't try to take advantage of you. He would wouldn't he?

  37. Thanks for dropping by and yes, you are right. With regards to this post, I absolutely loved it. What you seem to have forgotten to mention is the fact that the streets in england are covered in black ice and falling has nothing to do with being clumsy but more to do with slipping. Not your fault, glad to hear you are OK. God bless you.

  38. Oh my gosh! I'm glad your okay and that you didn't break your neck or a limb! Concrete is quite unforgiving.

Back to Simon's? That should be interesting!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh, poor you. I'm glad your friend insisted that you get checked out by a doctor - throwing up after a head whack isn't a good sign.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Please... tell me you're hiring.

  41. Glad you ended up OK. You do have a drama-filled life! Mine is a snoozefest compared to this ;-)

  44. You do your own stunts!!! You are AWESOME!!

Hope you are better and would give hugs carefully so you don't pull me down to the concrete as well..wink!!!!

  45. Why do I feel there's more to that 'end up going back to Simon's' part... you know you have to share

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hey I road the short yellow bus that doesn't mean I am a loser...Just don't leave the office with out your helmet...You could rock it!

    ReplyDelete
  47. haha, you're hilarious. Time for some knee-pads!

  48. I am glad you are ok and that you had someone to take care of you.

  51. Gute besserung as they say in Angola.
Simon's a good bloke, you'll be alright... just stay sober!
(Or don't if you want something to happen, lol)

  52. Bloody hell. I was cringing for you /before/ the head trauma.

I fell asleep on my bike for the fifth time yesterday, if that makes you feel any better. Cars pulled over and everything. I think they thought I was drunk.

Hopefully things are, at the very least, a little bit better. And not too awkward/embarrasing/uncomfortable/torturous/etc.

    Best of luck..

  53. So Sorry Kate for your accident! I am happy you have been helped and assisted. I love the snow but it is true, it can be a hassle to daily routine. We also had lots of snow in Tuscany before Christmas, it was lovely but we only challenged ourselves with snowballs fight!

    LOL

    ReplyDelete
  54. Kate, let's hug. Hope everything is fine right now.

    xo

    ReplyDelete
  55. A crah helmet...yeah that would look lovely with your snow boots. Not. Hope you're feeling better now and glad that a severe concussion was all you got, it could have been so much worse. xo

  56. Hope you are feeling better now matey. At least you managed to remain dignified throughout.......

You say you puked on his shoes? I'm sure you will smile about it later on, say, about four years from now?

You should get one of those big plastic bubbles and travel around in that. You can't hurt yourself, no alcohol can get to you, so you will be safe there as well.

The only down side to it is that you will resemble a giant hamster though.

    ReplyDelete
  57. How horrible! I was getting a headache just thinking about you falling.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I personally never leave the house without a crash helmet on.

Of course I look like a complete prat, but if you don't mind that, it's great!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Ow!

But what a great excuse to buy yourself a really, really big hat.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm very clumsy too, and it's the worst when you can't hide it because it happens publically. So sorry. I'm with Tina, what happened during your overnight at Simon's? I still vote for Jamie, tho, especially after his kitchen-flirtation.
    Feel better,
    Robyn

  61. Mishaps and accidents are always "worse" when others see it. Hopefully your head has now recovered. Perhaps a thick winter beanie instead of the helmet? With matching knee pads and wrist guards - could look quite fetching in shocking pink.

We don't have snow or ice and it's hard to imagine Christmas in winter.
Thanks for visiting my blog, much appreciated.
    Cheers.
